Privacy Policy – Magic Localize xcstrings

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Short version: Magic Localize processes your Xcode source strings solely to translate them. When you use a local backend (Gemma 4, Apple Translation), nothing ever leaves your Mac. When you use a cloud backend (Claude, OpenAI, DeepL, Gemini), your strings are sent directly to that provider's API using your own API key — not through our servers. We collect no personal data.

1. Introduction

This privacy policy describes how Magic Localize xcstrings ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use our macOS application. Magic Localize is a developer tool that translates Xcode .xcloc bundles using AI backends of your choice.

The data controller is Week Studio, operated by Vincent Corru. Contact: contact@weekstudio.fr.

2. What Data the App Processes

2.1 Your Source Strings

Magic Localize reads .xcloc bundles that you explicitly open. These bundles contain the localizable strings from your Xcode project (e.g., button labels, error messages). The app processes these strings in order to produce translations and writes the results back into the same files on your disk.

We never upload, store, or retain your source strings on our own servers.

2.2 Translation Backends

The app supports multiple translation backends. Your choice of backend determines where your strings go:

Backend Where strings are processed API key required
Gemma 4 (local) Entirely on your Mac via Apple Metal. No network connection. No
Apple Translation On-device via Apple's Translation framework. No network connection. No
Claude (Anthropic) Sent to Anthropic's API servers. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Yes — yours
OpenAI GPT Sent to OpenAI's API servers. Subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. Yes — yours
DeepL Sent to DeepL's API servers. Subject to DeepL's Privacy Policy. Yes — yours
Gemini (Google) Sent to Google's API servers. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Yes — yours

When a cloud backend is used, your strings are sent directly from your Mac to the provider's API using the API key you have entered. Magic Localize acts as a client — your strings do not transit through our servers at any point.

2.3 API Keys

API keys you enter for cloud backends are stored locally in your Mac's Keychain or in the app's preferences. They are never transmitted to Week Studio or any other party beyond the provider whose API they authenticate.

2.4 Purchase Data

Premium subscriptions and one-time purchases are managed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. We only have access to your subscription status (active / inactive) in order to unlock premium features. We do not have access to your payment information.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

Magic Localize does not collect, store, or transmit:

The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracking library.

4. Local Storage

The app stores the following data locally on your Mac only:

None of this data is synced to iCloud or any external service.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party. The only data that leaves your device is the source strings sent to cloud translation providers — and only when you explicitly choose a cloud backend and initiate a translation.

6. Data Security

Your data is protected by:

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

8. Children's Privacy

Magic Localize is a developer tool intended for adults. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 16.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or applicable law. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
